The Most Requested Palm Pre Apps

Palm developers have been slow out the gate to start providing a lot of applications for the Palm Pre. While it should be remembered that it took Apple’s IPhone nearly a year to start coming out with a substantial amount of apps, we Pre enthusiasts are clamoring for more real, useful apps for our beautiful new phones.

To date, the most requested Palm Pre Apps are the following:

  • Message Forwarding
  • Video Recording
  • Yahoo, MSN, and AIM instant messaging apps
  • E-Trade
  • Flash Video plugin

These apps are all undoubtedly coming, but when will they be here? Hopefully soon, or cell phone riots may start breaking out in front of Sprint stores everywhere.

Please comment on what apps you want developed the most!

  5. Desiree says:

I really miss the centros calender, color coding my work schedule, dr apts & plans made it so much easier to stay on top of things, also not having the contacts birthdates added to it isn’t convienent either. I think the ringtones are bizarre & would like to be able to change the text alert. I like the phone but I actually miss my centro.

  6. mark gibbons says:

    all of the above

  7. Dick Wolff says:

Upgrading from Zire (having used M100 before). I use memos heavily : I have 138 under 12 different categories, but Pre only offers four colour-coded unnamed ‘categories’. Don’t understand it - this feels like a deliberate downgrade?

I’m now going to have to type in keywords in each memo to enable me to find it (which will necessitate typing in the keyword in order to search for it). On the Zire I can find the memo I want almost instantly with three taps.

I understand the problem with categories in the Calendar (because Google, for good reason, uses different calendars rather than categories within them) - but surely there’s no need for it in Memos?

  8. Blaxicana says:

    -Video Recording
    -Foward txt msgs
-Ability to change ringtones for different people in contacts
    -Zoom feature on camera
    -Yahoo IM
    -Flash
-Ability to change buttons on main screen & have themes
-Have speed dial contacts on main screen or voice dialing

  9. Da Man says:

WoW! i just oredered the Pre and it will be here today Via (FedEX 2nd day air lol!) and after reading what the other pre onwers had to say and what the pre can’t do compared to my Verzion HTC Touch Pro 2 windows mobile i’m kinda dissapointed i’m really upset that palm left alot of things out, consider they are the one of the one’s who started the smartphones to begin with.

  10. Nick says:

More health and fitness apps (i.e. mileage tracking, calorie counting, etc)

  11. Rusty says:

Please add an alert for winter ski conditions at resorts nationwide

  12. David Knupp says:

    Voice Dialing
    Humidor App like the IPhone
    Flash Plug-In

  13. Justin Ott says:

EVERYONE LEAVING COMMENTS ABOUT: NOT FORWARDING TEXT MESSAGES, NOT BEING ABLE TO CHANGE TEXT ALERTS, NO ON SCREEN KEYBOARD, VOICE DIALING… NEEDS TO TAKE THE TIME RESEARCHING THE PHONE THEY SPENT ALL THIS MONEY ON. ALL THESE FEATURES ARE AVAILABLE WITH SOME SIMPLE MODDING. SOMEONE VERY IGNORANT COULD DO THIS PRECENTRAL.NET HAS STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DO IT. AS LONG AS YOU CAN READ YOUR OK. IF YOU CANT YOU SHOULD RETURN THE PRE AND GET A BASIC FLIP PHONE OBVIOUSLY THE PRE IS TO DIFFICULT!!! HOPE SOME OF YOU TAKE THE TIME TO DO THIS BECAUSE IT IS INCREDIBLE!

  14. don cruzio says:

I agree with the need for more medical apps or a Gray’s anatomy app. On the lighter side a happy hour app and an updated calendar.

  15. edward pinkerton III says:

I believe a flash player would be a great addition. Also the ability to read word documents would be equally great!

  16. cecilia giron says:

Urgent!! NEED TXT FORWARDING AND GROUP CONTACTS TO SEND TXT MSGS TO GROUP!!!!!!!!!!!!! So disappointed in Palm Pre had to get blackberry (I hate) but has text forwarding and group contacts.. (BUSINESS PPL ALSO WANT THIS PHONE!!)

  17. Shane says:

can’t wait for flash player 10.1 - that really will be one up on the iPhone!!!!

  18. von Buelow says:

The most missed apps is Datebk6 with its singular Week View. All other calendar programs are so poor in comparison! I’ve installed the Classic Version but there is no possibility to combine with the non classic features and no possibility to synchronize with Palm Desktop via USB

  19. I love my pre but.... says:

I love my Pre, but I miss my Treo. In order to make the Pre perfect:

Some type of blinking reminder of missed texts/ voicemails would be great so I don’t have to check the phone for missed messages whenever I leave the room.

Color coding for the calender. Not having it is enough for me to want to go back to my Treo. Being able to see what is going on at a glance is awesome, and seeing how much time I am spending on certain activities is pretty essential.

Being able to change the alert noises for texts and emails would be helpful..especially so I can hear it go off (unlike the 10sec beep we get now)

  20. Bassman says:

Voice Dialing..My old Dumb phone could voice dial.

  21. Marisa says:

Video phone, Video chat (yahoo & gmail), Sirius radio compatability, slingplayer (slingbox) compatability, a better copy and paste.

  22. ryan says:

    Needss A MYSPACEEEEE App! Pleassee(:
    not everyone uses twitter

  25. Tom says:

    How about some Urban Spoonage?

  26. k says:

    the obvious:
    -camcorder
    -video phone/chat
    -copy & paste (better way)
-tethering (is this back since 1.2?)
    -flash player

    miscellaneous:
-easy theme manager (change backgrounds of dialer, etc.)
    -google street view compatibility
    -HopStop.com app
-patch to add/remove wave launcher icons
-patch to separate or not show cd albums in photos mode
-voice live search (right now i use yelp and where? apps - they are fine, but it would be nice to be able to just hold a button and say it like on my old samsung instinct)
-improved haptic feedback and sounds and a toggler for it
-ability to hide/show specific google calendars (right now you can only show yours or all)
    -google wave support

  27. Mildred says:

Definitely need voice activated dialing, come on I hand it on my old samsung. I spent over $100 on a Blueant Q1 and can only program 8 numbers. Let’s go Palm.

  33. Bekka says:

    TweetDeck would be great.

  34. Da Man says:

Flashplayer would be by far the best feature and also text messaging forwarding other than those two features I Love the Palm pre lol!

  35. bikertrash says:

Text forwarding feature would be real great

  36. Mark says:

I think I am missing something here, I have the Palm Pre and it has a Myspace App and I can read word docs and most of the other Apps I see referenced seem to be available already….. I love this phone its amazing (I also just got it a week ago maybe its a newer version?)

  37. sunny says:

We need YAHOO on palm pre
but i am using mundu im which is working fine for me ;)

  38. zenzone says:

Too many dropped calls on the Palm Pre. Much better reception on my old HTC Touch in the same calling areas.

  39. Mike says:

Contact info for people on Facebook I don’t really want on my phone removal app.

  40. Brian says:

how about digital zoom for the presently crappy camera?

  41. lafd says:

color coded calender scheduler for firefighters kelly schedule

  42. Stephen says:

I do like my new palm Pre, But I need
Flash player, messaging (MSN etc)apps. Voice dialing and the ability to assign ringtones & message alerts.
    That will do for starters

  43. Mike says:

Its an open platform - if you want those apps go and develop them.
Apple don’t make all the apps for the iPhone, put up or shut up.

You bought a version 1.0 device knowing that it was going to have severe limits in terms of apps etc. if you can’t live with that then you shouldn’t have bought the Pre.
Maybe you should go and buy yourself a phone from 15 years ago and try using that again to see just how good the Pre is.

I like how you all want everything now and have no concept of development time and effort. I would rather Palm keep working to make webOS better and faster and let others develop apps for the time being. Then in another 3-6 months tidy up the current apps once they have enough feedback.

Like I already said, if you want it create it or shut it. Palm did not take on a contract to make you happy.

  44. mrdd says:

    Shazam!

  45. mrdd says:

    Shazam

  46. Josh says:

Here is a great site for a variety of cool apps including some of the ones everyone on here has been looking for like

    medical apps
    doc viewer

  47. brett says:

What do you think of the latest update for the pre?

  48. Just passing through says:

    Skype, plz!

  49. John says:

I love my pre. The only thing that’s missing is the video recorder, and (what I did not know until now :) ) forwarding . We can finally call it the iphone killer ;)
