great tutorial! I just upgraded to the pre as well. One question: Where does the app catalog tell you how much an app costs? Thanks!

  2. SmoovB says:

WOW! I have been having great fun with my Pre, waiting on those apps is driving me nuts. I’m just hoping that some how we’ll have a video recorder. It’s a few other things like not being able to forward my text messages. However, in all- “I LOVE MY PRE”

  3. Bingobaby says:

Seriously considering Palm Pre. Question re the classic app. I am a current Palm/Covey user. I love the 3rd party “compass” application. Can you say if it is compatible with Palm Pre?

  4. Turk says:

How Do I Get More Apps

  5. Turk says:

Does Anyone Know Where I can Download Apps For The Pre , For Instance The Shotgun App Is Cool Can I Put THat On The Pre?

  6. LOU says:

YEAH A VIDEO RECORDER WOULD BE NICE AND TO FORWARD MESS

  7. Gigi says:

I very much like the pre but there are things that concern me, like the battery heats up, can’t change the notification tone, can’t fwd my messages, where’s the vid cam, and NO YAHOO or MSN messanger…

Need more apps. My husband loves it, I’m thinking of getting the Palm Pro. Still got two more weeks before my 30 days are up. let me see what happens till then.

  8. Shaun Rapp says:

Upgraded from instinct to Pre… REALLY miss notification ringers. Also needs visual voicemail badly. Pre does some cool things via internet but someone forgot to tell palm it is still a phone, need to forward txting and need video camera also. Plus wheres the apps?

  9. DanD says:

Both phones have a 600Mhz processor.
    Limitations come down to software.

  10. Alexis says:

If you have a Palm Pre update your Pre. If it says it all up to date just wait. I called Sprint and they said the next update will include a video camera.

Personally I don’t mind the notification ringer. All the phones I’ve had never had that. But I want Camera settings and I want more apps. Maybe like a save image button when you’re online. Or save object because I can’t get ringtones nor wallpapers. I have to go to my computer to do it that way. But I love my Pre. Best phone I’ve ever had.

P.S. Check out my blog. I run all through my Pre now. Thanks.

  11. A-GO says:

Battery life needs to improve. Fowarding texts & camcorder need to happen. I can’t download ringers, anyone else got that problem?
I still like that full touch screen & full keyboard. I do like the quality in the camera. Speed of internet is pretty fast compared to my treo 755.

  12. Diablo says:

Needs Video recorder, TXT foward and more apps.

  13. RICH says:

SAME FOR ME. GREAT PHONE BUT I NEED TEXT FORWARDING AND ALSO THE NOTIFICATION TONE. THAT WOULD MAKE IT PERFECT FOR ME…..YOU CAN THROW IN A VIDEO CAMERA WHILE YOUR AT IT.

  14. SmoovB says:

Where’s the apps promised the end of June? I just don’t understand why they released this very capable phone that has a very limited capabilities. I’m mad as hell Sprint is telling me that my phone has water damage & it didn’t get wet. Now i’m stuck with a phone thatls not all it’s suspose to be. This angers me so much. For sometime now I’ve been so pro Sprint, when others put Sprint down, I corrected others because Sprint had changed from how terrible the customer service use to be, and how espensive it was. But after this, I’m wounded. What do I do from here?

  15. Ronnie Copeland says:

Tell us when apps are coming out. I’m about to return my phone…..

  16. raspat says:

i love my phone still that they will send an app with a video recorder that would make it the best.

  17. Al says:

Where are all the apps? still waiting, How soon will we see them?

  18. AC says:

there are 31 apps aval at precentral.net

  19. Drew says:

Its funny to see everyone start to throw a fit like a child when something isn’t here soon enough for them.

I just got my Pre yesterday(7/11) and I do wish there was more on here to get but I understand things take time. Just like on my PS3 game Socom, its been about 2 months since the last update but I would rather have a update or in this case apps that work RIGHT the first time rather than have to download update after update to get the same result.

  20. WH says:

JUST TRIED iPhone and Pre for 30 days. iPhone is still way ahead. Sound, support, apps, screen, speed, etc. Its a great little computer that is also a phone.

However, the Pre WebOS is superior to the iPhone OS, but it runs slow on the Pre compared to the snappy iPhone S running iPhone OS 3.0. Synchronizing is equally problematic with both, and even with my Me.com account, i give a nod to the Pre for synchronizing. Contacts, texting, and mail navigation is superior on the Pre. Easy to do with one hand and of course, there is the corporeal keyboard.

ATT coverage is superior. The sound is much much better on the ATT/iPhone connection, but at what cost?

Final decision: ATT/iPhone combo is far superior, but I am going to stay with the Pre. Sprint service is much much less costly, with the money I save, ill buy an iPod touch and a Wii.

Last note: I explicitly insisted on my corp discount when i signed up at ATT. I saw the tech type it into the computer, still the billing failed to include it. The best that phone support folks could offer after this was to give me a website to register the discount myself. Apologies I got but no refund. Another friend is still waiting 4 months for her discount to show up on her bill. Sprint got my discount set up immediately.

  21. adam says:

have had many treo and palm phones. the pre is good but they left out some very important features. Video, fwd texts and more importantly favorites for quick calls. it would seem that it could be added to the quick launcher. its is very cumbersome looking up frequent contacts.

  22. ReNeGe01 says:

the phone itself is great , but the need for more apps and things that are suppose to be already on my previous htc mogul are not on the new PRE…what is the build up on the hype that its a superior phone..Sprints has greatly improved but this truly dissapoints

  23. jose says:

The phone just came out, relax. Its a great device that’s going to get better.

  24. matt says:

ya.. all in all im disappointd in sprint this phone was hyped up to be better then iphone and to be honest other then the keyboard feature this phone is worse then my blackberry peral i had.. just cost a shit load more and looks a little cooler

  25. Ms. Lady B says:

I’m with you all. Where are the apps? This phone is too expensive not to have a camcorder, not forward texts, and no notification tones. Even the bluetooth capabilities are slow! I hope they fix this. Sprint is going to have to deal with a whole hell of a lot of dissatisfied customers. I’m one very upset customer!

  26. Brian Finn says:

Love the phone. Need a voice recorder, e-reader and Datebook for webos

  27. PalmPreUserLH says:

Go to http://forums.precentral.net/homebrew-apps/ to get some homebrew apps.

  28. Jay says:

Does anyone know wassup with dataviz? If/when will you be able to create documents?

  29. Kevin says:

I didn’t get the Pre, but am very interested in it. Just doin the research, but I just wanted to comment, I didn’t know that forward texting was so important? I don’t think I have ever had to do that. Seems like a good phone and from what I hear there are bunch of apps coming out in the fall.

  30. Ken says:

Need Apps, NOW so i can show up my friends IPHONE!

  31. Roman says:

we really need an option to empty emails in trash with one click instead of sliding individual emails left to right like idiots. its enough that i already did that in the inbox… we need to get that in trash and send items…

  32. Jiggy says:

Enjoy the pre, but really no video recorder, can’t forward text, can’t view flash videos. About to go on its second month and no new apps? …oh wait maybe 3 or 4 . Must say great and easy handle but, then again no apps. To challenge me. And yeah good thing you guys didn’t forget the mirror.

  33. Roman says:

did anyone’s email outbox and inbox change positions after the palm update that happened today? why would they put outbox first? sucx…

  34. Daniel Nacrelli says:

Most pre apps cost nothing at this time. If an apps has a fee it tells you in the description of the app. Click on the app in the catalog on the pre and read the data about the app before you download (if you want it)

  35. nick says:

there are a lot of apps that i would like to see on my pre, for instance, something like music id?

  36. jeff says:

for people complaining about no ringtones this phone has the abliity to utilize the mp3’s that you put on it. if you look on the bottom of the screen of the ringtones you will see a bubble with a plus sign. just tap that and it will show you the mp3’s on your phone. unfortunately you can only use the beginning of the song and are unable to select a section from the middle… for now. would like to see that option though. hope this helps.

  37. amos says:

I cant wait for the video recorder! I love my pre tho. I just wish it would have came with more apps before they released such a great product! I-phone eat your heart out!!

  38. MIke says:

I think SPRINT is full of crap. The PRE is a cool phone but an I-phone killer? The PRE is like the car before the invention of gas. Cool to look at but what makes it go?
WHERE ARE ALL THE APPS? MESSAGE FORWARDING? TEXT TONES?… this is bull.

  39. Keith says:

This phone truely sucks….I can’t count the times it dialed out to the wrong person.
Screen is very sensitive. The aps suck …a lot of hype for a piece of junk. I bought three of these for the family…now my kids are upset that I didn’t follow their advice and by the iphone.

  40. Rich G says:

I bough the pre yesterday, and while I’m a little disappointed in the number of apps available and the lack of video, I’m still a relatively happy camper. I’ve been lugging around the Samsung Ace for the past year. If you want to see an absolute wasteland of applications available, check out what’s available for that POS. The only good thing about that phone is the video camera. I’m still getting used to the buttons and sensitivity of the touchscreen, but still, I’m pleased so far. We’ll see how happy I am come October. If there aren’t any new applications by then, I’ll surely sing a different tune.

  41. Jay says:

For me the lack of notification is horrible. I’ve had my phone for thirty days the wake up botton popped off on day 32 and sprint thinks I’m going to pay 100 dollars for a replacement. This phone is not living up to the hype. I’ve been with sprint five years I trully hope they get this together. Last year it was that garbage called the instinct now this how many phones must we buy to get one that lives up to the promise?

  42. rosie says:

the phone just came out, of course its not gonna have everything. get over your “problems” and wait. it’ll all be worth it cuz when they come out with updates and more apps it’ll be great. i like it a lot more than the iphone. the screen doesnt break as easy and as hard as i am on my phones theres not one scratch. its better than alot of the phones out there so stop complaining.

  43. Tommy T says:

Cool phone…I would like to be able to access my sprint online photo albums. While accessing the sprint website through the pre I tried sending some stored pics to the phone but the page jiust times out.

  44. BK says:

You people are so impatient. It took the iphone a year to come up with any decent apps and now everyone is on the app bandwagon. The Pre is brand new. Patience is a virtue.

  45. Amy says:

In the apps catalog, if it doesn’t state how much the apps are, does that mean they are free?
And I thought I was just having a blonde moment about the text forwarding (i.e. me not being able to find/figure it out) Nice to see that that’s not available yet, and looking forward to it coming soon!
Otherwise, I LOVE the phone. Just wish the battery lasted longer. :)

  46. BB says:

    SmoovB:
This is the *exact* situation and relationship i have with Sprint right now! I’ve always been able to swap out phones, even when the damages are clearly the result of user error. when the screen of my palm pre stopped responding to taps, i took it to a Sprint store in my new neighborhood. not only did they say it had water damage, but they also flagged my phone so no other store could swap it out. i didnt drop it in water, but i was informed that water damage could occur from the rain! i live in seattle and would never purchase a phone that didnt have a decent shell to protect it from RAIN. Customer Solutions is sending me a free replacement, but if the water strip shows my pre has been in contact with water, i may be charged the $100 fee. i hate sprint now. this is poor design on Palm’s end. if im texting while walking to my car in the rain, moisture will likely get on the back of the keyboard. when i slide the keyboard back, that moisture will be pressend against the back of my screen and will likely slide between the cracks of the silver backing where there are screws. this should have been adressed at point of sale. i souldve made sure i wiped the back of thekeyboard before sliding it in.

  47. REDWINGst10 says:

I agree with BK to many people are a little anxiousness for Pre Apps. I think people are ready to show off their Pre to co-workers that have the almighty Iphone and show them up.

  48. CAPO says:

I LIKE THE PRE, BUT THERES THINGS IT NEED TO CATCH UP ON. LOTS OF THINGS I CANT DO, I WAS ABLE TO DO WITH THE PALM 755. IM ABOUT TO GO BACK TO THE 755

  49. CAPO says:

PRE GOTTA HURRY UP AND UPGRADE. IM READY TO GO BACK TO THE 755

  50. John says:

I don’t get what all you pissandmoaners are complaining about. If you wanted the iphone you shouldve bought the damn iphone. At&t coverage is awful, and their cusomer service is worse. I’m so happy with the pre, the ability to multitask and the physical keyboard. I hope all you whiners give your pre’s back and get yourselve the iphone and when the app store is overrun with apps that blow your mind you can kiss al us sprint/pre owners butts. Have a nice day
